Since the 2000s, Vignobles Foncalieu has launched an ambitious strategy to move up the range through the construction of qualitative segmentation and the implementation of concrete environmental actions in the vineyard. Anticipating, sometimes by a decade, consumers’ expectations for eco-responsible wines.
A new step has been taken this week: our two cellars Les Vignerons du pays d’Enserune and Puichéric have obtained the collective HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) level 3 certification. This represents nearly 25% of the areas cultivated by our cellars and more than 47,000 HL that can be marketed with this environmental label.
HVE certification is an official recognition of the environmental performance of our winegrowers and cellars. It certifies that a farm’s agricultural activities promote biodiversity by engaging in practices that preserve and use natural areas within and around the farm. It is based on 5 pillars:
– Protecting biodiversity: protecting our territories
– Phytosanitary strategy: working towards 0 pesticide residues in our wines
– Fertilization management: use fertilization products in a rational way
– Water resource management: managing irrigation in a sustainable way
– The amount of inputs must not exceed 30% of the farm’s turnover
Beyond viticultural practices, this label also takes into account the farm’s environment and encourages us to have a global agro-environmental reflection.
Level 3 of this certification implies an obligation to achieve results and therefore an effective commitment. It is the only one that allows the use of the mention “High Environmental Value HVE”.
For Foncalieu, the objective is clear: the HVE certification of all brands signed by Foncalieu in the medium term (2021).
