The Best Sommelier of the World Competition
Vignobles Foncalieu is a partner of the World’s Best Sommelier 2023 competition!
Every three years, the ASI (Association Internationale de la Sommellerie) organises a worldwide competition and awards the title of Best Sommelier of the World. This event is orchestrated with the sommelier association of the host country. After Anvers in Belgium in 2019, the next edition will take place in Paris from 7 to 12 February 2023, 34 years after the last competition held in France. It will see nearly 70 candidates representing 67 countries meet during 4 days of high-level tests, putting them in a professional situation.
The international delegations will be received at the Pullman Montparnasse, which has recently been renovated. The quarter and semi-finals will be held there. The announcement of the semi-finalists will take place in the prestigious setting of the Hôtel de Ville de Paris. The final and the closing ceremony, organised at the Paris La Défense Arena, will offer a thrilling show that will not fail to enthral the 3500 or so professionals and amateurs expected. This event, which will be accessible to the general public through a ticketing system that will open in June, is a rare opportunity to attend a high-intensity competition, in a large-scale setting, featuring talented finalists and authentic products in the service of professional excellence.

Vignobles Foncalieu has chosen to join forces with the Union de la Sommellerie Française (UDSF) for the prestigious ASI (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale) Competition for the Best Sommelier of the World, which will take place in Paris in February 2023. A collaboration driven by shared values: the quest for excellence and the passion for a job well done.
The 17th edition of this triennial event is hosted by the UDSF, chaired by Philippe Faure-Brac, Best Sommelier of the World 1992.
It is a source of pride for Foncalieu Vineyards to participate in the promotion of French gastronomy and sommellerie and to share the richness of our wine heritage and our Languedoc terroirs with the candidates and participants.
